INSIDE EVERGREEN
August 21, 2024
Dear Evergreen Family,
This past Saturday, I found myself seeking refuge under a kind homeowner’s patio that overlooks a golf course. As it turns out, I had neglected to check the weather app to see that torrential downpours and lightning were on the agenda for the day. Not exactly ideal golfing weather! While a bit of planning couldn’t have changed the atmospheric pressure, it would have prepared me to bring a jacket.
As we prepare to return to the normal rhythms of church life and school this fall, I want to give you a brief “weather update” of what to expect here at Evergreen Church. And no, I don’t foresee any storms brewing on the church weather radar!
Welcome Back Barbecue
Please join us in welcoming the Bechtel family back from Sabbatical! On September 4th at 5:30 p.m., we will enjoy time together at the church building with a catered barbecue meal. I hope to see you there!
Sunday School
Our Sunday school offerings for kids and adults will resume on September 8th. As of right now, we desperately need several more volunteers to teach student classes of all ages. If you are able to serve in this capacity, please contact Maggie Gettman (maggie@evergreensalem.org).
Congregational Meeting
After our Life Together meal on September 18th, we will gather for a congregational meeting to hear updates from our Session and ministry leaders about various aspects of church life. We’ll also spend some time together in prayer.
Community Groups
Launching the week of September 25th, community groups are an indispensable part of who we are at Evergreen. They are a chance to connect and care for one another through conversation and a meal. This year, we hope to add a few more Community Groups to serve our surrounding communities. Naturally, this means there will be a few changes to CG hosts and leaders. That said, if you were in a group last year, expect to hear from your leader soon. If you have yet to participate in a group but would like to, email me at ian@evergreensalem.org.
As we look ahead to fall season at Evergreen, I encourage you to be prepared – not with jackets for a rainy day, but with hearts ready to engage all that God is doing in our community. Let's step back into the rhythm of church life together, with gratitude for the past and anticipation for what lies ahead.
